Making Cancer a Country Song - Finding Humor in Life's Curveballs

Cancer? Dementia caregiving? Stolen car? Steve Wunch has weathered it all — and still finds the funny.

Steve Wunch is known for his booming laugh, boundless energy, and big-stage presence in the multifamily world. But life? It’s thrown him some sucker punches.

In 2004, Steve was diagnosed with testicular cancer just as he was starting a new job. Fast forward to 2018, after losing his dad, he became the full-time caregiver for his mom — who was battling dementia. Oh, and somewhere in the middle of that? His dog died and his car got stolen. You can’t make this stuff up.

Through it all, Steve has kept his signature humor and resilience, proving you really can be a positive force, even when life feels like a country song. In this conversation, we talk about handling curveballs with grace (and grit), the power of humor in healing, and why human connection matters more than ever.
